Exercise Physiologists

An Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP) is a university qualified allied health professional. AEP’s specialise in clinical exercise solutions to help treat an extensive range of medical conditions including obesity, arthritis, diabetes, cancer, osteoporosis, depression, asthma and cardiovascular diseases as well as many other common and complex conditions and injuries. They also prescribe exercise for specifically tailored health and fitness needs including home or gym based exercise programs.

AEP’s work directly with their clients to develop individually tailored solutions and healthy habits to enable clients to manage their lifestyle or medical issues and to help achieve their goals in the best way possible.

Solutions often include exercise delivery complimented by health and physical activity education, advice and support and lifestyle modification with a strong focus on achieving behavioural change and client/Patient independence.

Accredited Exercise Physiologists may work in private practice, in gyms, in medical centres or in hospitals and can work side by side with Physiotherapists, Dieticians, Podiatrists and Occupational Therapists. Their patients may range from children to athletes to senior citizens and everyone in between. AEP’s also work in the area of sports medicine research or in the field of professional sport.

AEP’s must be accredited with Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA).
